What's on my Whatsapp profile?

I went ahead and exported my account's info from #WhatsApp to see what information they report having on me.

It is an interesting list. Tons of metadata about me. Works almost as fingerprinting with all the information about where I use WhatApp.

What I found surprising (and unsurprising) was that as part of the attributes of my profile it contained the following lists:

  • Contacts - The list of phone numbers from my address book that are in WhatsApp
  • Groups - List of names of the groups I am part of
  • List of previous IP - Probably to detect suspicious activity?
  • Very detailed device information - Not just my phone, but the OS and browsers I use for WhatsApp web.
