What makes me very worried about the big Mozilla lay offs is that all that talent will be working in private companies where their summed work now won't be available for the embetterment of the web.
Many areas fully unstaffed, MDN, Servo, Devtools. I really really fear if this was the beginning of a path, where altruist efforts for the open web eventually disappear and we won't have any more choice than going for Chrome. Imagine if Gecko finally died :(
