I find that sometimes starting with code makes me find problems better than me pretending to be the computer and try to predict them.

I often start with code as the way to clear my mind and understand what I'm talking about, thinking in abstract ways can only lead you so far. But the hard part then becomes not to end up focusing on the code details instead of the general vision.
