I think its time that phone cameras come with a hardware activated light/sound signal that they're off.
Not only to prevent others taking sneaky pics but for my own phone safety, specially the selfie cam.

Japan at one point had a law on the books that required cell phones to make loud noises when snapping pictures... why you ask? Well it was supposed to prevent perverts from taking up-skirt pictures of women because the loud noise would make them aware a picture was just taken.
